Hi, Em.
It's been sooo rainy the past few days. Yesterday was a tropical storm and there was a tornado warning. My mom didn't want me driving so I spent almost the whole day in bed yesterday. The weather cleared up around 6, though, and at 8 I babysat for my mom's friend (who was my first grade teacher). The one who has foster kids!!!
I got there at 8, and the kids were already in bed. The foster mom said, "They never wake up once they're asleep," so of course, one of them did. Around 11, I heard crying so I went upstairs and the little girl, Rae, who is 5, was in the parent's room. I guess she woke up and went in there and was scared when she didn't see them. After all that she's been through with unreliable, horrible adults in her life, I'm sure that was terrifying to see they were gone. I walked into the room and although I've only met her once (for less that 30 seconds), and I'm not sure she even remembered me, she grabbed onto me as soon as she saw me. She sat on my lap and cried while I explained, "They're coming back. I'm a friend. I'm going to make sure you're safe until they come back. They're on their way home right now." When she stopped crying enough to speak, she whispered, "It's dark..." so I took her back to her room, turned on the lights, and sat with her while she fell back asleep. She's so sweet and trusting for a kid that's been hurt so much.
I want to be a foster mom.
<321, Kayluh.
